Crispy Fried Chicken and Gravy Like KFC

Crispy Fried Chicken and Gravy Like KFC

This recipe is one that makes me so nostalgic, I have so many memories from when I was in London and I would eat KFC Chicken all the time. I don’t know what triggered those memories in me recently, but I’m glad that happened because that is what inspired this amazing recipe.

This Crispy Fried Chicken Recipe is Just like KFC. I never liked KFC fries but their Chicken and Hot Wings (KFC London), was the best, hands down!
After working out at the gym, I’d cross the road and buy 6 Hot Wings and gravy on my way home, no wonder I never lost the weight that time. I was working against myself and i blame KFC, lol. But seriously, KFC knows about Chicken and that’s a fact!

I made my version of their Crispy Chicken and its insanely delicious. If you ever have a craving for original KFC Crispy Chicken, this one is for you. Everything about this was an absolute hit! From the gravy to the chicken, it was just absolute bliss. It can serve as a snack, a full meal or a side, i mean whats not to love?

If you don’t like frying your food, you can bake this in oven instead. Also you can use any part of chicken you like, you will still get this crispy, tender chicken. If you are ever hungry for this kind of vibe, do yourself a favor and try out this recipe, you will thank me. Enjoy!

550g Chicken Laps
1 Cup Milk
1 Tsp Garlic Powder
1 Tsp White Pepper
1 Tsp Oregano
1 Tsp Curry Powder
1 Tsp Onion Powder
1 tsp Smoked Paprika
1/2 Tsp Thyme
1 Tsp Salt

For Coating
1 Large Egg
1/2 Cup Milk
1 1/2 Cups All Purpose Flour
1/2 Tsp Black Pepper
(Half of each seasoning listed above)

1 Chicken Stock
1 Beef stock
60g Butter
4 Tbsp All Purpose Flour
1/2 Tsp Onion Powder
1/4 Tsp Black Pepper

  1. Firstly, marinate the chicken with all seasonings (Garlic Powder, White Pepper, Oregano, Curry Powder, Onion Powder, Smoked Paprika, Thyme and Salt). Rub seasoning into the chicken properly until it is properly covered.
  2. Add in milk to seasoned chicken, set aside and allow to marinate for 1 hour.
  3. Add in half of the quantity of seasoning used in the chicken to the flour then add some black pepper, mix together properly, then transfer to a ziploc or a big bowl.
  4. In another bowl, mix together milk and egg for coating the chicken.
  5. After an hour of marinating, take a piece of chicken from the milk and seasoning mixture, then dip in the egg and milk mixture, then dip in the flour mix. Make sure every inch and corner is covered in flour. Repeat this for all the chicken pieces.
  6. Pour enough oil in a pan for frying, when hot, put chicken in . Do not over crowd the pan if you are frying a lot, so your chicken gets done evenly. After about 5 minutes, turn the chicken to the other side and allow to fry. You may need to turn it a couple of times to ensure its done through. Allow to fry on both sides till chicken is done or golden brown on both sides.
  7. Take them out of the oil unto a tray or wide plate lined with some paper towel to soak up some of the oil from the frying. Then set aside or eat straight away if you’re not having it with the gravy below.

  1. In a pot with boiling water, dissolve chicken and beef stock cubes in it, stir and make sure it is properly dissolved, then set aside.
  2. In a clean pan, on medium- low heat, add in butter and allow to melt, make sure not to burn it.
  3. Once the butter melts, add in onion powder, whisk in, then add in flour and whisk in vigorously to avoid any lumps.
  4. When its properly combined, add in some of the stock water in step 1, add a little at a time and whisk in. This is where you adjust the consistency you want your gravy to have. For me, i like it to be in the middle, not too thick, not too loose. Stop adding stock when you’ve reached desired consistency.
  5. When everything is properly combined, crack in some black pepper, whisk in and allow to cook for a minute and your gravy is done.
  6. Dip your fried chicken in gravy and enjoy!
