How To Make Breadcrumbs


After posting my Breaded Shrimps recipe on Instagram, i noticed a lot of people started to ask “how do you make breadcrumbs?”, so i decided to share the process with you. Breadcrumbs are really easy to make and now you have a way of re-purposing your leftover bread or those top and bottom slices no one ever wants to eat. This also eliminates the stress of running to the store to get some breadcrumbs to make a dish especially when you just need a bit. Knowing how to make breadcrumbs from scratch is essential.

Any type of bread can be used to make breadcrumbs, its really your preference, i used sliced bread in this. You can also add seasoning to yours, depending on the purpose you need it for and that’s the beauty of making breadcrumbs at home, you know exactly whats in it and it has so much more flavor than the store- bought ones. Breadcrumbs are really useful, you can use them as a crunchy topping, coating, binding and to mix in dishes like Scotch Eggs, Meatballs, Breaded Chicken, Shrimps or Fish and a lot of other dishes.

Lets all ensure perfectly good food doesn’t go to waste, there’s always a way to re-purpose. You can freeze the bread slices till you need them. Make sure the crumbs are properly toasted before storing. I hope you find this helpful and if you tried it out, let me know how it worked for you.


4 Slices Bread



  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius
  2. Break Bread slices down into smaller pieces into the food processor, process till you get desired texture.
  3. Line a baking tray with parchment paper and spread bread crumbs.
  4. Bake at 180 degrees Celsius for 18 minutes. Stir every 5 minutes to avoid burning.
  5. Store in an airtight container or jar.

Total Time: 28 Minutes

Yield: 1 Cup
